With Easter approaching, many are scouring the internet for new and exciting ways to prepare ham. Try something new this year and add some flair to the menu with a little bit of, you guessed it, WINE!
We have a fantastic ham recipe, that is rich and sweet. Our Gooseneck Vineyards pinot noir, our Rhody Red or Gooseneck Vineyards cabernet sauvignon are great options for the ingredient list, each adding a unique character depending on what flavors you want to bring out!
After all, shouldn’t all holidays be wine infused?
Red Wine Citrus Ham Recipe
1 (12 pound) whole ham
6 TBS butter
1.5 2 cups honey
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup red wine
3 tablespoons ground black pepper
Zest and juice of 1 orange
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Score top of ham with criss-cross patterns and place into a roasting pan.
In a small pan, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in the rest of the ingredients (through orange zest/juice). Simmer (do not boil) until mixture has reduced and thickened, 10-20 minutes.
Spread the glaze over the ham, careful to reserve ¼ cup of the glaze to reapply to the ham throughout the roasting process.
Roast ham at 375 degrees 30-45 minutes, or until internal temperature is 145 degrees. Re-glaze every 15 minutes.
